Outlanders
A Roblox survival experience with a focus on VC - inspired by Neighbours, Rust and Arc Raiders, combined into this one post-apocalyptic environment.

- Roblox
- Type
- Survival, social voice chat
- Terrain
- ~4000 x 4000 studs, multiple biomes
Outlanders is a combination of three games that I liked for different reasons. The social aspect of Roblox Neighbours, the survival loop and replayability of Rust, and the extraction tension and movement of Arc Raiders. Voice chat was what brought the map and environment to life, to chat with other players in their bunkers, gear up, and to explore together.
Terrain
The world was around 4000 by 4000 studs within which I meshed different biomes together, that had a proper survival-game progression. Each biome with it’s own risks, materials, and survival factors.
The bunker
The bunkers were the social anchor of the game. The second floor is where the NPCs resided, which you could interact with to progress in the actual game, or you could use the lounge to relax and chat with whomever was visiting your bunker.
What I took from this project
This was the second project on Roblox I was deeply invested in. The map took me around 2 weeks to create, plan out, and shape. I learnt not only what makes players play a game, but also how the environment needs to feel in order for these players to stay.
